12/22/21:  It’s official!  We can no longer take our trailer to Kentucky.  The response has been so overwhelming, we now have rented a 26-foot truck to deliver the supplies!  THANK YOU!  (Amazon must think there are 100 people living in our house).  In addition to more supplies than ever expected, we have also passed $2,000 in monetary donations.  We have received donations from California, Florida, Indiana, Minnesota and South Carolina.

12/21/21: We just received word this morning that Jewel-Osco has committed to donating products to our project to assist the tornado victims.  We are finalizing the details, but the pick-up should occur next Monday or Tuesday.  We will follow up with pictures and more information.  In the meantime, please support your local Jewel-Osco!  Thank you @Jewel-Osco!!!

Our Challenge:

After the recent tornado that devastated parts of Illinois, Tennessee and Kentucky, we have decided to go beyond simply sending a cash donation to a charity and challenge ourselves to get involved. We have time, a six by ten enclosed trailer and a mission!  We contacted St. Jerome’s Church in Fancy Farm, KY (just outside the destruction zone) who are caring for dozens of families that lost everything and asked what help was needed.

Our plan is to gather (or purchase) enough items to fill our trailer and then drive down to Fancy Farm sometime between Christmas and New Years to deliver the donations. If you wish to help, below is a list of specific needed items requested, but I think they would be grateful for any assistance provided.
If you want to donate any items (all items need to be new), you can drop them off at our house, at Global Test Equipment (1424 Centre Circle, Downers Grove, 7am-4pm Monday-Friday, located in the business park behind Portillo’s), or contact us and we will pick-up any donations. Thank you to Global Test for donating the costs of fuel and any lodging needed for the trip.

Thankfully St. Jerome’s has already received a lot of support, but these are the items they have not received (or need more). Check back for updates.
Items Requested:
Diapers. All sizes, both baby and adult.  A manufacturer delivered a semi-trailer full!
• Gloves, socks, caps
• Blankets, pillows
• Landry Detergent. Large sizes
• All general hygiene items (not tooth brushes, they have plenty of those)
• Deodorant
• Denture cream/glue
• Containers for dentures
• Dry goods
• 55-gallon bags
• Toys and crafts. This is not a Christmas request. Think of kids that lost their home, do not go to school and need stuff to keep busy all day. Coloring books, crayons, Play-Doh, board games, etc.
• Sweatpants, sizes XL and up
• Men’s and women’s undergarments

We will accept cash donations and buy the items requested (and/or others) to fill the trailer just prior to leaving. The last day for donations is 12/27.  If you wish to donate by Zelle or Venmo, please send your request for information to sales@4gte.com.

Thank you!
